3D Printing Seminar at SIGCE

3D Printing Seminar

A 3D Printing Seminar was organized at Smt. Indira Gandhi College of Engineering (SIGCE) on 21 August 2024. The purpose of this session was to help students gain an in-depth knowledge of the technology of 3D printing, its principles and applications in a wide and varied context of modern engineering and manufacturing.

The event began with an overview of the principles that Additive Manufacturing, after which different 3D printing technologies, processes and materials were discussed. Students were exposed to the added value of 3D printing technologies in terms of speed, cost-effectiveness, design flexibility and sustainability.

The interactive session provided opportunities for participants to interact with real-world examples and case studies from industry, creating a deeper awareness of 3D printing’s impact on product development and manufacturing workflows. Several topics were covered including: Design for Additive Manufacturing (DfAM), Post processing methods, and the integration of CAD tools.

In addition, the seminar focused on practical examples of 3D printing in automotive, aerospace, medical and consumer product applications and demonstrated the innovation and efficiencies can achieve through its use. Students gained experience in applications bridging considered design and production and learned how 3D printing encourages creativity and precision.

At the end, we conducted an open Q and A session where students engaged with the speaker to clear their confusions and to look into the future of additive manufacturing. This three hour session proved to be both informative and stimulating for students to consider taking certification courses to advance their careers in product design and development in AutoCAD, SolidWorks, and 3D Printing.
