On December 12, 2024, Smt. Indira Gandhi College of Engineering (SIGCE) organized an informative seminar on AutoCAD Mechanical to provide students with necessary design and drafting skills specific to the engineering field.
The seminar began with an interesting introduction to Computer Aided Design (CAD) and then went into detail about how AutoCAD Mechanical improves productivity by using customized tools and features for mechanical design. The students learned how the software produces 2D drawings, assemblies and component designs with accuracy according to international drafting standards.
During the session, the participants covered a variety of topics; mechanical components, layers and annotations, dimensioning standards, bill of materials (BOM) generation and automation tools. A speaker displayed live examples to demonstrate how AutoCAD Mechanical relieves complex design tasks and bridges into the manufacturing side of the industry.
Students also learned about practical industry applications with AutoCAD Mechanical as it relates to machine design, product development and documentation. The seminar impressed a sense of the role that digital design tools play in modern engineering design and encouraged students with ways of practicing sustainable efficient design practices.
The program ended with a discussion and interactive Q and A session where students reflected on their thoughts as well as raise questions they had about CAD modeling and a career in design. The seminar was both informative and inspirational as it encouraged students further to build on their technical knowledge of additional learning opportunities in AutoCAD, SolidWorks and 3D Modeling in preparation for the workforce of the design mechanical career and innovation.
