A Seminar on GD & T was conducted at A.I. A.R. Kalsekar Polytechnic, Panvel on 27th April 2024. This session was about GD & T concepts, their software in design, and their importance in the manufacturing industry.
The seminar had an interaction session that allowed participants to explore the ideas through the use of practical examples and industrial case studies. The students learned how GD & T communicates the design intent and functional requirements across the design, manufacturing, and quality teams, with real examples from industry to illustrate the application.
The topics discussed in depth included Datum reference frames, Tolerance zones, Feature control frames, and symbols used in GD & T. Participants were also shown actual examples of GD & T benefits in an application that relates to product quality, decreased manufacturing errors, and improved assembly fit.
The workshop highlighted the interpretation of engineering drawings to clarify the differences between Geometric tolerances and typical dimensional tolerances. Students were taught how GD & T fits into CAD modeling and into inspection techniques to achieve international design standards.
At the end, an open Q & A session provided the students with the opportunity to clarify their doubts and explore potential career paths in design and manufacturing. The session was engaging and informative and encouraged students to continue their education by taking auto-cad, SolidWorks, and GD & T certification courses, helping them to prepare for a career in product design and development.
