Solidworks is a Parametric Modeling software that is mainly used to create 3D part models for analysis and various other purposes in the industry. Recently, MIT had organized a seminar on Solidworks at Saraswati College of Engineering, Kharghar. In this seminar, students were given a basic understanding of the software and its usage in various industries. The three major sections of the software, namely, Part, Assembly, and Drafting were covered in succession. Starting with the Part Module, we started with showing how to change the working units in the software. Then, 3d Modeling using Extrude and Extrude Cut commands was demonstrated. Hole Wizard was also discussed and explored using Section View.
Moving on to the Assembly Module, a basic Assembly of a Cam Follower Mechanism was used to explain various components of the Assembly model, including Animations, Exploded/Collapsed View & Animate Explode. Also, different ways of integrating a model part into an assembly and vice-versa were shown.
Students were introduced to the different Sheet Metal options in Solidworks. Starting with different flange creation methods, they were shown how a Sheet Metal model is formed by following a step-by-step process. Also, the importance of a Flattened View was explained to them.
Finally, students were shown how to prepare standard drawings of the modeled parts and assemblies using the Drafting module. Starting with the different projection methods, Dimensions, Notes, GD & T, and View Layouts were explained. Later, they were also given a brief lecture on Welding methods. Later, the stage was open for any kind of queries from the students.
